The World Travel Awards (WTA), established in 1993, is often referred to as the ‘Oscars’ of the travel world. It is the travel industry's most prestigious awards programme, rewarding leaders in the tourism, airline, hotel and hospitality sectors and is acknowledged globally as the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence.

This year, Resorts World Genting has proudly emerged as the victor of ‘Malaysia’s Leading Resort award’. This is the fifth time the resort has won in this category, including in 2023, 2022, 2018, and 2006, when it was named ‘Genting Highlands Resort.’ This makes it the resort with the most number of wins in this category in Malaysia. It was also nominated in four other categories, including “World’s Leading Theme Park Resort.’

The glittering ceremony for the World Travel Awards (WTA) Asia & Oceania Gala Ceremony was held on 3 September 2024, in City of Dreams Manila, the Philippines.

The voting process is online, and votes come from qualified executives working within travel and tourism and the consumer travel buyer. A standard vote carries a weightage of one, while votes cast by verified travel professionals carry a weightage of two.
