Wakin Chau is a singer-songwriter and producer from Hong Kong and Taiwan. He was one of the most influential Mandarin-language singers of the 1990s, earning titles like one of Taiwan’s "Four Heavenly Kings," the "People's Singer King," and Hong Kong's "King Killer." He served as a mentor for two seasons of “Sing My Song” and as a mentor on “Sing! China Season 8”.
In 1987, Wakin Chau officially released his debut album, ‘Direction of the Heart’, which received widespread acclaim. In 1991, he launched his milestone Mandarin album ‘You Make Me Happy and Sad’, selling over 2 million copies. The title track quickly became a hit across Mandarin-speaking regions, and the album earned him the "Best Mandarin Male Singer" award at the 4th Golden Melody Awards. In 1993, Wakin released the Mandarin album ‘The Flowery Heart’, which sold over 4 million copies across Asia and was awarded the IFPI's top-selling Mandarin album of the year. This massive success marked the peak of Wakin's career and solidified his title as the "Nation’s King of Singers" in the Mandarin music industry. In 1997, he released the album ‘Emil & Friends’, which sold over 1.5 million copies in Asia. The title track became a huge hit, especially in Taiwan, where it quickly became a popular graduation song. In the same year, Wakin produced and performed the theme song for Jackie Chan’s film ‘Who Am I’ and held his world tour concert at the Taipei Municipal Stadium.
Over his 39-year career, Wakin Chau has held hundreds of concerts around the world, including New Zealand, Australia, the United States, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore. He even set a record as the first Taiwanese singer to hold 19 consecutive concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Over the years, Wakin has won numerous awards, including the "Outstanding Asian Singer-Songwriter Award" from Billboard, the "Top 10 Outstanding Pop Singer Award" and "Best Original Song Award" from Hong Kong Radio’s Top 10 Chinese Gold Songs Awards, and the "National Honorary Singer Award" at China’s Original Music Pop Chart Annual Awards.
